MDF Knurling
MDF Knurling is the result of a careful study of the geometric patterns found on weightlifting bar grips. The machining process used to create these patterns is called knurling, which comes in three types: hill, mountain, and volcano. Inspired by these patterns, I manually carved a piece of MDF using a router guided by a rail. With its shapes reminiscent of Persian tapestries and its sharp edges reminiscent of fakir carpets, the plaque is suspended by rings from two rods of a steel structure attached to the wall, resembling a sports mat. This arrangement allows the sculpture to be considered not purely decorative, but as a potentially usable object.
